His passion for dermatology began at Brigham Young University, where he built a strong foundation in science. He then went on to excel at the Medical College of Wisconsin, graduating with honors as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.
Dr. Smart's commitment to excellence never wavered. He completed a transitional internship at Intermountain Medical Center, followed by a demanding dermatology residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Despite the accolades, Dr. Smart's desire to provide the most advanced care didn't stop there. He sought further specialization, venturing to New York City to complete a fellowship in laser and cosmetic dermatology at Advanced Dermatology. This intensive training equipped him with expertise in minimally and less invasive cosmetic procedures, ensuring he offers patients the latest and most effective treatments available.
After his fellowship, he was brought in by the University of Utah of Medicine to direct the department’s program of laser and cosmetic dermatologic surgery. In his role as assistant professor, he helped grow and develop the dermatology department’s offerings to include various new technologies, lasers, and tumescent liposuction surgery. In doing so he also became the first dermatologic surgeon in Utah to utilize Renuvion J-Plasma technology.
In an effort to continue providing the best treatments to his patients he more recently completed an extensive fellowship with Dr. David Amron in lipedema liposuction surgery as part of the Advanced Lipedema Treatment program at the Roxbury Institute in Beverly Hills.

Caitlin Brewer, APRN FNP-C, MSN, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a passion for helping patients achieve their dermatologic goals. She believes in creating a supportive and collaborative environment where patients feel heard and empowered to take an active role in their skin health. With a background that includes extensive experience in various medical settings, Caitlin brings a well-rounded and compassionate approach to patient care.
A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Caitlin moved to Utah as a child. She has been working in medicine since 2009, starting as a medical assistant before becoming a registered nurse and then a nurse practitioner. She earned her Master's in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Westminster College with a 3.9 GPA. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Utah Valley University, where she graduated with a 3.7 GPA. Before joining our team, she managed treatment for patients with a wide range of dermatologic conditions, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and skin cancers. She also performed full-body skin exams, identified suspicious lesions, and conducted in-office procedures such as skin biopsies and cryotherapy.
